The Hit Music Princess

Started off as PD at my college station WWNW in New Wilmington, PA. My first paying job was board opping at CBS Radio's Star 100.7 in Pittsburgh. I part-timed at Star 104 in Erie PA for over a year and at Froggy in Pittsburgh. I just started my first full time job doing middays in Meridian, MS at WJDQ (CHR). Every step in my career is exciting!

I Invented the East Coast Radio Tour!

So I finally went on my little road trip. It was a great experience and I made terrific connections. I visited four clusters, some markets were larger than others. I met my hero, Randi West, the radio goddess. The woman is a national superstar and she took 2 hours out of her day for me. She airchecked me and gave feedback. She was impressed with my mechanics and word economy. I've been hearing from a few sources that I need to be more conversational and add more personality. I even got to ride in her car and she took me to lunch!

I also got feedback from an OM in Myrtle Beach. He agreed with Randi on the personality thing. In addition to visiting stations, I also had the experience of listenings to various ones along the way. In addition to hearing the ones at which I stopped, I also listened to Hot 99 in DC and a few Roanoke stations.

Another thing I learned from Randi was to REALLy think about how the listener thinks and what they are doing. What can I do that will make them listen? Why do they care? Obviously I've heard such questions before, but she brought it to another level that made me feel like studying sociology just so I could connect more to the listener.
